As a first-time homebuyer, it’s important to understand the mortgage process.
The mortgage process:
- Application – Complete your application and submit your requested financial documents.
- Pre-approval – Your loan officer will issue a pre-approval letter. It is good for 90 days.
- House Hunt – Find a property, negotiate with the seller, and get it under contract. Provide earnest money to hold the home.
- Processing – Sign your initial disclosures. Your loan will be prepared for underwriting. All information and documentation will be verified.
- Appraisal – Your lender will order an appraisal. An independent appraiser will assign a value to the property.
- Underwriting – Your loan will be formally underwritten for approval.
- Conditions – You and your loan team will work together to satisfy all conditions requested by the underwriter.
- Clear-to-close – All loan conditions will be cleared by the underwriter and final loan docs prepared.
- Closing – Wire your cash-to-close to the title company and go to the title company to sign your final docs.
